Austin police should implement the citation option
instead of unnecessarily incarcerating thousands of people
for low-level nonviolent offenses every year.
The Austin Neighborhood Association Safety and Community Policing Committee, and the Chief's Forum Members will conduct a Safety Committee Meeting for the Austin Neighborhood Association next Monday evening July 21, 2008, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The proposed recommendation allowing APD officers to issue promise to appear citations for minor crimes as newly allowed by the last Texas State Legislation.Other issues will be discussed regarding the quanity of officer budgeted such as 3.5 per thousand residents; purchasing new Police Helicopter; and methods to improve technology.
